It all began with an idea
In ancient Athens, democracy thrived on a foundational principle: when the most powerful abused their authority, the citizens held them to account through prosecution. It was a system built on public vigilance and legal action—created with the intention that no leader, no matter how influential, could escape justice.
Yet in our modern democracy, we have failed to uphold this principle. Lying in politics has become routine. Corrupt and abusive individuals in power act with impunity. The criminal law, which applies to ordinary citizens, rarely reaches the elites who cause the most damage to society.
This is where Exec Prosec comes in. We exist to fill a critical gap in the legal system—an organization dedicated exclusively to investigating, exposing, and prosecuting the most powerful and abusive individuals. We will not be constrained by political bias, nor will we allow power to shield those who break the law.
We are starting with politicians, but in time our remit will expand. The criminal law must apply not just to the powerless, but to the powerful too.
Our first prosecution case was led by private prosecutor Marcus J Ball, who criminally prosecuted Boris Johnson MP just as he became UK Prime Minister. The purpose of the case, the first of its kind, was to establish that repated and serious lying in politics was a criminal offence.
A judge ruled that the case should proceed to a jury trial at the Crown Court, a historic moment. Yet, before that could happen, the case was shut down and removed from court in suspicious circumstances—a decision that raises serious questions about the justice system’s treatment of those in power.
The story of that prosecution—and the unprecedented actions taken to stop it—is the subject of an upcoming documentary film in production by Radiator Productions Ltd. and Sozo21 Ltd.
At Exec Prosec, we believe in a simple principle: power must answer to the criminal law. And when it does our world will become a fairer place.
